When Lorena Rodriguez (ICU 2017-19) visited the Peace Memorial Park in Hiroshima, Japan, with her class, she realized the importance of honoring collective memory and allowing for multiple experiences in historical and social narratives. “As a Colombian and Rotary Peace Fellow,” Rodriguez says, “I think that memory can reveal forms of structural violence, resulting from dynamics of injustice and power, that are not readily connected with the actors of a conflict.”
